Child Safety Policy

At Adaptmate, the safety, privacy, and wellbeing of children is our highest priority. This Child Safety Policy outlines our commitments and safeguards for protecting minors who interact with our platform through their schools. This policy is compliant with the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, the Right to Education (RTE) Act, 2009, the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), and GDPR provisions for children's data.

1. Our Commitment

  • We never interact directly with children. All student data is managed exclusively through authorised school institutions.
  • We do not collect, use, or disclose personal information from children without verifiable institutional and parental consent.
  • We do not display advertisements to children or use children's data for marketing purposes.
  • We do not use children's data for profiling, behavioural targeting, or any purpose unrelated to education.

2. Data Collection from Minors

2.1 What We Collect (through schools only)

  • Student name, class, section, and roll number
  • Academic performance (assessment scores, learning progress, topic mastery)
  • Engagement signals (participation, homework completion rates)
  • Curriculum-aligned learning data

2.2 What We Never Collect

  • Photographs or biometric data of students
  • Social media profiles or personal contact details of students
  • Health records, financial information, or family details
  • Location data or device identifiers specific to student devices
  • Any data that could be used to directly contact a child

3. Consent Framework

4. Access Controls for Student Data

  • Teachers: Access only to their assigned classes and subjects
  • Principals: Access to school-wide aggregated data and class-level insights
  • Directors: Access to institution-level analytics only
  • Parents: Access only to their own child's data (where enabled by the school)
  • Adaptmate Team: No access to identifiable student data unless expressly authorised for support purposes

5. AI & Algorithmic Safeguards

  • AI outputs (learning recommendations, gap diagnostics) are assistive tools for educators, not deterministic labels for students
  • No automated decisions with legal or significant effects are made about individual students
  • AI models do not use student data for training external models
  • All AI recommendations are reviewed by teachers before implementation

6. Content Safety

  • All platform content is curriculum-aligned and age-appropriate
  • AI-generated content undergoes safety filtering and educator review
  • No user-generated content features are available to students
  • The platform does not include social features, messaging, or chat between students

7. Incident Reporting

If any content safety or child safety concern is identified:

  • The concern will be escalated to our Safety Team within 1 hour
  • The relevant school authority will be notified within 4 hours
  • Appropriate action (content removal, access restriction) will be taken within 24 hours
  • If required by law, the matter will be reported to law enforcement authorities

8. Data Retention for Minors

  • Student data is retained only for the duration of the school's subscription
  • Upon a student leaving the school or the school terminating its subscription, individual student data is deleted within 90 days
  • Parents may request immediate deletion of their child's data at any time
  • No student data is ever sold, shared for advertising, or used beyond educational purposes

9. Employee & Contractor Safeguards

  • All employees and contractors undergo background checks
  • All team members complete mandatory child safety training annually
  • Access to student data is limited to essential personnel only, under strict audit controls
  • Dedicated Child Safety Officer oversees compliance with this policy
